MENTOR

Katherin Wermke is an internationally renowned photographer and director of photography for commercials, film and TV productions. She’s the founder and director of Barcelona Photographer, serves as Head Photographer in Downtown Studio Barcelona, and has worked and lived in New York, Mumbai, Dubai and Barcelona. Katherin’s expertise and unique creativity is also essential to the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya in Barcelona; as an integral part of the staff she is instructing lighting techniques for portraiture. She is also a member of the Asociación de Fotógrafos Profesionales de España (AFP – Spanish Photographer Association) and the NGO Shoot4Change. Katherin collaborates with the NGO Don Bosco in South India, too. Her contribution, framed within an art therapy project, consists in teaching photography to street children..

DAY 1 - 06 Sept 2017

Welcome to India.
Arrival at Bangalore, is the capital of Karnataka and best known internationally as an IT hub and Asia’s fastest growing cosmopolitan city. The City boasts of spacious gardens, parks, tree-lined avenues, a profusion of flowering trees and lakes earning it the synonym of Garden City. Transfer to Mysore. Enroute visit Srirangapatanam - The entire town is enclosed by the river Kaveri to form a river island.
Somnathpur - is famous for the Chennakesava Temple (also called Kesava or Keshava temple) built by Somanatha, a Dandanayaka (commander) in 1268 CE under Hoysala Empire King Narasimha III, when the Hoysalas were the major power in South India.

DAY 2 - 07 Sept 2017

Mysore (or Mysuru), a city in India's southwestern Karnataka state, was the capital of the Kingdom of Mysore from 1399 to 1947. In its center is opulent Mysore Palace, seat of the former ruling Wodeyar dynasty. The palace blends Hindu, Islamic, Gothic and Rajput styles. Mysore is also home to the centuries-old Devaraja Market, filled with spices, silk and sandalwood.

DAY 3 - 08 Sept 2017

Drive to Ooty, after the breakfast. Ooty is situated in the Nilgiri hills. The name meaning blue mountains in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Badaga and most other Indian languages might have arisen from the blue smoky haze given off by the eucalyptus trees that cover the area or from the Kurunji flower, which blooms every twelve years and gives the slopes a bluish tinge. Because of the beautiful mountains and green valleys, Ooty became known as the Queen of Hill Stations.
The transfer to Ooty will through two wild life National Parks named Bandipur & Mudumalai, are known for its population of Tigers, once the private hunting ground of the Maharajas of Mysore, the park also harbors Indian elephants, spotted deer, gaurs (bison), antelopes and numerous other native species. The 14th-century Himavad Gopalaswamy Temple offers views from the park's highest peak. Enroute, we will enjoy the Tamil Nadu Lunch.
On arrival, check in at the Hotel. Evening you may opt to have a walk through the Botanical Garden or local Market. Overnight at the Resort.

DAY 4 - 09 Sept 2017

Ooty is located in the Western Ghats zone at an altitude of 2240 mtrs. It is the headquarters of the Nilgiri District, where the two mountain ranges meet. Udhagamandalam , popularly called as OOTY by the tourist, is the Queen of Hill Stations. Centuries ago this was also called as Oththai-Kal [single stone] Mandu [ Mund is a name of Toda Village].
Coffee and Tea Plantations and trees like Conifers, Eucalyptus, Pine and Wattle dot the hill side in Udhagamandalam and its environs. Summer temperature is maximum of 25 C and a minimum of 10 C. During the Winter it is minimum 5 C and a maximum of 21 C when it is slightly warmer. This area was inhibited by the tribals called TODA long before anybody could venture into this region. Curiously enough, this slice of paradise remained unknown even during the periods of the great Southern Dynasties. It was the Britons who ventured into the riches of the regions during early 1800’s. Development and modernization took after their arrival to Udhagamandalam. This was the Summer Capital of the Madras Presidency during the British Rule. Coonoor - 19Kms, Kothagiri - 31 Kms are the other smaller nearby hill stations.

DAY 5 - 10 Sept 2017

After the breakfast, proceed to Ooty - Nilgiri Mountain Railway Station (World Heritage Site) for the Heritage Rail Journey.
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway was operated by the Madras Railway until 31 December 1907 on the behalf of the Government. In January 1908, the railway line was handed over to South Indian Railway. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) is one of the oldest mountain railways in India and was declared by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in July 2005. It is the only rack railway in India, and uses the Abt system.
It will take 4 Hrs to complete the journey to Mettupalayam. After the Lunch, drive to Cheruthuruthi, played a primary role in setting up the Kalamandalam. His Samadhi is in the old Kalamandalam campus. For those who want to have a glimpse at his contributions to the cultural world, a visit to the Vallathol Museum at Cheruthuruthy is a must. Another thing Kalamandalam can boast about is the ‘Koothambalam’, i.e., the special hall for performing the ritual and classical dances like koothu and koodiyattam. Since the old times, Koothambalams are considered very sacred and were built only in temple premises. Kalamandalam is the only exemption where the ‘Koothamabalam’ is not in the temple premises. .
You will be relaxed in the bank of River Nila, with a length of 209 km, it was the second-longest river in Kerala, after the Periyar River. The word "Nila" indicates the culture more than just a river. Nila has groomed the culture and life of south Malabar part of Kerala.

DAY 6 - 11 Sept 2017

Kerala Kalamandalam, deemed a University of Art and Culture by the Government of India, is a major center for learning Indian performing arts, especially those that developed in the Southern states of India, with the special emphasis on Kerala. It is situated in the small town of Cheruthuruthy in Thrissur, Thrissur District on the banks of the Bharathapuzha river.

"Elephant Fort" - Punnathurkotta was once the palace of a local ruler, but the palace grounds are now used to house the elephants belonging to the Guruvayoor temple, and has been renamed Anakkotta (meaning "Elephant Fort") - Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Krishna (an avatar of the god Vishnu), located in the town of Guruvayur in Kerala, India. It is one of the most important places of worship for Hindus of Kerala and is often referred to as "Bhuloka Vaikunta" which translates to the "Holy Abode of Vishnu on Earth".

After a long drive, you will be relaxed at Fort Kochi.

DAY 7 - 12 Sept 2017

Kochi – the palm green commercial town of Kerala has one of the finest natural harbours in the world. A town with a hoary past, Cochin is the gateway to Kerala. The Jewish Synagogue – built in 1568 AD contains Grand Scrolls of the Old Testament and the copper plates containing the privilege granted to the Jews by the Cochin Rulers. The floor of the synagogue is paved with exquisite Chinese hand painted tiles. The Dutch Palace was built by the Portuguese and presented to the Cochin Raja in 1555 AD.  17th century murals depicting scenes from the Indian epic, Ramayana can be seen here. St. Francis Church, built originally by the Portuguese in 1510 AD is believed to be the first church built Europeans in India. 
Vasco da Gama was originally buried here. The The Chinees fishing nets can be seen in the Kochi Harbour. The Chinese through trade contact thought the technique of catching fish.

DAY 8 - 13 Sept 2017

In the morning, after breakfast start to Priayar.
After breakfast in the morning, you will drive to Periyar (4:00 hrs drive) on the way visit tea and spice palpations.

The very sound of the word Thekkady conjures up images of elephants, unending chains of hills and spice scented plantations. The Periyar forests of Thekkady are one of the finest wildlife reserves in India. Spread across the entire district is picturesque plantations and hill towns that hold great opportunities for treks and mountain walks.

DAY 9 - 14 Sept 2017

In the early morning, you will have a 3 hrs Green Walk inside the Sanctuary.
After the breakfast, You will experience a game-viewing cruise in the Periyar Lake. During the boat ride there, you can spot the Indian Gaur, Elephants, Spotted Deer, Monkeys, etc. and after you can have ride on elephant in a spice plantation and optional activities of Jeep Safari, Jungle walk, Ayurveda massage, etc. In the evening, Cultural Dance Show can be arranged. You will stay overnight at Periyar.

DAY 10 - 15 Sept 2017

After the breakfast, transfer to Kumarakom, (4;00 hrs drive)  on arrival check in to a resort in the bank of backwaters and Rest of the day free to enjoy the stay at backwater.

It is a village which is actually a cluster of tiny islands in the Vembanad Lake. This is a part of the Kuttanad region. You will visit the bird sanctuary, which is spread along the 14 acres of vast land, and is a heaven for migratory birds as well as a paradise of an ornithologist. Fishing and boating facilities are also available in Kumarakom.

DAY 11 - 16 Sept 2017

3 Hrs boat ride in narrow canals of Backwaters in shikkara boat.
Rest of the day free to enjoy.
A farewell dinner will be served at resort with cherishing memories of past 11 days…!

DAY 12 - 17 Sept 2017

Like all good things, your holiday experience comes to an end but you will always carry with you memories of this unique and unforgettable experience. Today you will be assisted and transferred to Cochin International Airport.
